Koreans have used the lunar calendar for thousands of years. There are several special holidays reckoned by the lunar calendar. Chusok, or Harvest Moon, which is one of the biggest holidays of the year, falls on the 15th of August by the lunar calendar, or some time in September by the solar calendar. As this date marks the harvest time, it is regarded as a sort of thanksgiving day.
